ABOUT
Both with careers in the Air Force, Jim and Sue moved around many times during their working years landing in Ohio, Oklahoma, Northern California and Washington D.C. and, finally, settling in Port St. Lucie, Florida where they lived for 13 years. While there, they split their time between Florida and Connestee Falls, North Carolina… until they chose the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina as their permanent residence in 2017.
Jim was an Air Force pilot for 20 years with the last eight before retirement flying and directing improvements for the high-altitude U-2 aircraft. After retirement from the Air Force, Jim flew with United Airlines for 13 years!
Sue spent 32 years in Civil Service for the Air Force and Department of Defense with her last role as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Air Force Installations and Logistics in the Pentagon.
HOBBIES
Sue has a wide repertoire of interests including golfing, hiking, playing bridge, reading and singing. As for Jim, when he is not hiking (one of his favorite pastimes) …he is on the golf course, and, according to his lovely wife, fairly addicted!!
SURPRISED TO KNOW
Jim is an accomplished sailor captain of several sail boats over the years. The most ambitious trip to date was a 4 month excursion on their 38’ sailboat with Sue and 2 cats sailing from Annapolis, Maryland to Bar Harbor, Maine and back!
Sue spent time in the Middle East and was “honored” at a WWE wrestling event to be hoisted up on the men’s shoulders!!
WHY LEGACY?
Both natural planners, Legacy offers much of what they wanted for their golden years with the benefit of picking out their “forever” house to make their own! They also find great value in having the Wellness and Care Center on the Legacy site as well as other medical facilities in close proximity, if needed. Finally, they revere the great opportunity to continue to foster their cultural and outdoor activities in Mills River’s centralized location as a wonderful benefit.
FUTURE AT LEGACY
Attracted to the equity model and the benefit of the control given to the residents’ destinies, the shared investment in the community will provide opportunity to set priorities and make improvements as time goes on.
