ABOUT

Carl and Genny moved to Connestee Falls, North Carolina three years ago, after Carl retired from a 40- year career as an executive with Firestone that required multiple relocations to various company districts in Virginia, Florida, Minnesota and Georgia. Prior to retirement, Genny kept busy raising the family and holding various administrative positions before serving as a corporate meeting planner for Disney Cruise Line.

HOBBIES

Carl holds a great love and reverence for the game of golf! Genny enjoys music, plays the guitar and hammered dulcimer, loves gardening, walking and genuinely enjoys bringing people together and gathering with family and friends. Both Carl and Genny delight in cooking and hiking together…and revel in watching their grandson 2 days/week which keeps them on their toes!

SURPRISED TO KNOW

The Messmers were 20 year old juniors in college when they got married! Five years later they welcomed the first of their 3 children…and have moved 20 times in their 48 yearlong marriage to date!

WHY LEGACY?

With a commitment to being proactive, Carl and Genny wanted to focus now on their future plans.  Wanting to remain close in proximity to their daughter and grandson in Brevard, Legacy seemed to be the ideal choice. They were very drawn to the equity model of homeownership and grateful to become aware of this opportunity at the early stages of the development…thus personally appreciate all the benefits of becoming a member of the Founding Guild! They were impressed that the community is thoughtfully planned for homeowners to benefit from well-rounded living experiences inclusive of 5 dining venues, indoor and outdoor activities and quality health care. They feel that Legacy will offer the best of what Connestee presently does…all within a short walk out their front door.  Additionally, a huge plus in their eyes was the long-term care and security being offered by virtue of becoming a homeowner at Legacy.

FUTURE AT LEGACY

While both of the Messmers look forward to volunteering, organizing and participating in a variety of activities, they anticipate their warm, welcoming and supportive spirits will aid in fostering wonderful friendships in the future at Legacy.

Barbara and Paul

While Barbara and Paul have enjoyed living in downtown Charleston, SC, they will not miss the growing threat of hurricanes, tidal flooding and the various impacts of climate change when they move to Legacy.
