ABOUT
Ann and Janet currently live in Fort Myers, FL and spend summers in Chautauqua, NY where they immerse themselves in the remarkable educational and cultural offerings. They previously spent 8 summers in Portland, ME living on the water in “Old Port.”
Ann’s professional life, before retiring in 2005, was as a developer and CEO of programs and services for people with developmental disabilities, mostly in Ohio. Thanks to her Girl Scout volunteer service, she figured out early on that she could make a difference in people’s lives by keeping them out of the old-style “gothic” institutions. Janet’s career was in high-tech and included international business development, marketing director, strategic planning, and market analyst forecasting emerging computer network technologies. But, she says, despite her technology background, she doesn’t know how to fix your computer or phone!
HOBBIES
You’ll find Ann playing around on her guitar or out on the golf course working on her game. She’s involved with governance committee work in their current FL community. Janet likes to paint – with encaustics (melted beeswax), with flowers (gardening) and food (cooking). Both Ann and Janet sing in a women’s chorus and both enjoy yoga. They create a comfortable “nest” wherever they are and enjoy cooking together so much they designed a kitchen with two sinks in their FL home.
SURPRISED TO KNOW
Parlez-vous français? Janet’s answer is YES! She lived in Belgium as a child and Paris while in college. In addition, she had two French-speaking stepmothers!
Ann and Janet met in a yoga class over a decade ago. They were married on the day the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Obergefell v. Hodges case.
WHY LEGACY?
“It’s not your parents’ CCRC!” Janet’s parents and Ann’s aunt lived in CCRCs, so they’ve both experienced the benefits of lifecare. But Legacy’s “Next Generation Retirement Living” feels designed for Baby Boomers, not the WWII generation. Everything and everyone will be new. Ann and Janet also like the climate and location in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Having friends in the area also helped make their “sight unseen” decision an easy one.
FUTURE AT LEGACY
Ann will be bringing her sense of humor and Janet looks forward to helping nurture a vibrant arts program. They’re excited to make a new “nest” and make new friends.
