ABOUT

Susan and Fred Hartley started their life together in Texas but then spent about 30 years in Northeast TN before moving to Columbus, NC 13 years ago.

Before they were married Susan traveled and lived overseas, and Fred was studying medicine.  After marriage Fred worked as a physician and Susan helped raise their two children and developed a career as a language arts/journalism teacher.

HOBBIES

In addition to loving their jobs, Fred and Susan have enjoyed various outdoor endeavors, such as backcountry hiking, canoeing, whitewater kayaking, scuba diving, and farm life/animal-related activities.

Since retirement, Fred and Susan have kept busy with dogs, horses, and farm care and maintenance.  Additionally, Fred is involved with Rotary Club, and Susan, with music activities, with a special interest in Medieval and Baroque music.

WHY LEGACY?

Susan and Fred like Legacy’s relatively small size and rural feeling. With long wait-lists at other area CCRC communities, Legacy has the appeal of a shorter move-in timeline and the possibility of personalizing their own free-standing home.

FUTURE AT LEGACY

The Hartleys hope to continue to pursue their current interests and possibly share them with others. They also hope to develop new interests and friendships in their future neighborhood at Legacy.

Janet & Ann

Janet & Ann met in a yoga class over a decade ago and were married on the day the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Obergefell v. Hodges case.

Barbara and Paul

While Barbara and Paul have enjoyed living in downtown Charleston, SC, they will not miss the growing threat of hurricanes, tidal flooding and the various impacts of climate change when they move to Legacy.
