ABOUT
John and Jan have lived in Beaverdam Run, a self-managed condo community in North Asheville since 2010. Prior to retiring to Asheville, they lived in Pittsburgh, PA for 30 years. They both enjoyed a successful career in television. Jan was a program producer for several stations and was fortunate to work with many talented people who helped her win local, national and international awards including a Peabody for “Second Chance” about organ transplantation and donation. Jan served as Director of Program Development for Leadership Pittsburgh and held an Assistant Professor position at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. John completed his television career as the Chief Broadcast Engineer. When he retired from Broadcasting, he became a travel agent for 18 years.
HOBBIES
Since John was 13, he has enjoyed amateur radio. He also likes to garden and leads the maintenance of his community Clubhouse, swimming pool and streetlights. Jan enjoys a range of hobbies including swimming, yoga and amateur photography. Jan serves on the Board of the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts. They both also love to travel.
SURPRISED TO KNOW
John is a Certified BBQ Judge and they both quit their jobs and took an around the world cruise for four months!
WHY LEGACY?
John and Jan agree that being the first residents in a new retirement community tops their list and that they have a couple years to prepare. And, the fact that they chose their preferred home now, locked in the price, and could be in control of the overall interior design is very appealing. Finally, the benefit of home ownership is another plus. The CCRC concept is another important feature because they have no children. Especially during the current COVID situation, they like knowing additional and alternative health and safety precautions can be incorporated into buildings and outdoor spaces. The year around pool was a strong selling point as well!
FUTURE AT LEGACY
Jan enjoys getting to know people…so plan to see her volunteer on the Welcome Committee. John is a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) which is a requirement for maintaining a public swimming pool in NC. He will be a great asset to our team who maintains the swimming pool.
