ABOUT

Mary was a resident of Rochester, NY for 40 years and spent the last 13 of them part time in Hilton Head, South Carolina.  In 2012, she made the big move to live in Hilton Head full time and lives there presently!  While she has a college degree in art history, she also has a proclivity to tapping into the left brain with the joy of working with numbers!  Consequently, her professional life was as the budget manager for the College of Arts, Sciences and Engineering at the University of Rochester!

HOBBIES

Mary lives a life full of varied interests.  She offers her time as a lab assistant for the Volunteers in Medicine, a free clinic for community members without medical insurance.  This was the first location of the organization which now has in excess of 100 locations throughout the US.  She is one of the volunteer cashiers at the thrift store associated with St. Luke’s Church, a post she has held for the past 15 years.  She loves to garden and besides the abundance of vegetables she tends, her latest endeavor is to grow peanuts! Mary is also an adventurous traveler who reveled in a hot air balloon ride above the Serengeti … a wonderful memory from her trip to Africa!  Finally, she also loves to play Mah Jongg, a joy that she looks forward to sharing with her future Legacy friends!

SURPRISED TO KNOW

Mary has “broken the gender barriers” by being the first female in her Hilton Head community to be a mower of the grounds riding her John Deere mower!

WHY LEGACY?

Mary believes the Legacy community will be “spectacular” and acknowledges the benefits of the equity model.  Consequently, she has happily locked in her Village Home reservation… which will also perfectly accommodate her standard poodle and maltipoo! In fact, Mary discovered Legacy while staying at the infamous Barkwells, a dog-centric destination right here in Mills River!  She looks forward to moving into her brand new home and loves the location!  Additionally, she cites that she feels a sense of genuine safety/ security and enthusiastically look forward to the wide variety of activities within the community and beyond!

FUTURE AT LEGACY

Mary affirms that all the residents will be “new” to each other and looks forward to fostering a wonderful set of new friends/neighbors.  One of the ways she would like to do so is by working as a cashier at the Legacy general store!!  What better way to meet lots of residents!!
