ABOUT

Kent and his late wife Jane grew up in Indiana.  After Kent got his BA Degree from DePauw, he entered the Air Force for four years as a commissioned officer. Kent then returned to Indiana University to get his MBA while Jane was finishing her degree in performance piano in the School of Music.  After their marriage, they moved to the Chicago area where Kent began his business career with Sears in their corporate headquarters.  Meanwhile, Jane continued her love of music and earned a Masters Degree in conducting at Northwestern.  After 19 years, having held several senior executive positions at Sears, Kent joined a New England based retail chain headquartered outside of Boston. He became the CEO and took the company private.  Later, that company was purchased by Montgomery Ward.  Kent then became involved in a couple of retail turnaround situations before retiring in 2000.  While Kent and Jane’s permanent residence at that time was in Lexington, MA, in 2007, they bought a second home in Cliffs Valley in Travelers Rest, SC.  After Jane passed away due to cancer, Cliffs Valley became Kent’s permanent home. Their two sons reside in the New England area.

HOBBIES

Kent enjoys being outside cycling, playing golf, bocce or pickleball.  Indoors, he follows a physical fitness regimen. But when it’s time to slow down he enjoys listening to jazz and classical music with a glass of wine in hand.

SURPRISED TO KNOW

Following his hobby interests, Kent has been on 15 cycling tours in Italy, France and Spain since retiring!  There isn’t a better way to really see Europe than on a bike while enjoying the cuisine and wines of the regions.

WHY LEGACY?

After Jane passed away and having been her caregiver through her 6 year battle with cancer, Kent started to think about the next stage of his life, realizing that at some point chances are he might need special care.  Kent wanted to continue the lifestyle and many of the amenities he enjoys at the Cliffs.  He also wanted to continue to own and live in a freestanding home and have the services available to him in his home as long as possible.  The CCRC equity model at Legacy at Mills River, with all of its benefits, was and is the perfect solution!

FUTURE AT LEGACY

Kent looks at moving to Legacy as a new adventure…building and decorating a new home…developing new friends…enjoying the many services Legacy provides…and living in a beautiful environment.
