Julie and Bill are both New Yorkers from birth – she originally from Long Island and he from the upstate town of Monticello. Today they mostly live in Manhattan but on the weekends frequently visit Bill’s childhood home situated on a beautiful lake in the Catskills.
Julie has always loved the performing arts and received a BFA from NYU. In 1979, fresh out of college, she was hired as a PA for a production of Filumena that was slated to open on Broadway. The cast starred Joan Plowright and Frank Finlay and was being directed by Franco Zeffirelli. She was lucky enough to continue to work for Maestro Zeffirelli for some 10+ years as an assistant/secretary. The work took her to Chicago, Los Angeles, Positano, Rome, Venice and London where she was privileged to work on a wide variety of projects and productions with extraordinary artists. In the early 90’s, tiring of life on the road and wanting to settle down, she took a job as an administrative assistant at a small newly formed “boutique” financial management firm. She loved the energy of the place and the people. Over the years her responsibilities grew and included office management for the trading floor as well as event coordination. Today she continues as an Executive Assistant. 32+ years later she is VERY proud to be even a small part of this “little boutique” firm that has blossomed into a global financial management giant.
Bill worked for many years in his family’s tire recapping, auto repair shop in Monticello, which eventually became one of the first foreign car importers and dealers in the Northeast. During his college years he had to make a shift when he was drafted into the Army. He spent a year in training, a year in Vietnam and an additional year in Germany before coming home to his family and the shop. In the early 1980’s, Bill had an opportunity to join the Sullivan County (NY) Sheriff’s Department and jumped at the chance. He loved serving his community and helping his neighbors for almost a decade. Following the death of his father, he and his mother moved to New Jersey so she could be nearer his brothers and their families. He became a co-owner and manager of a wonderful wine and beer shop that also sold handmade artisanal chocolates and candies. He retired in 2015.
Julie and Bill were introduced by co-workers at her financial management firm. It’s a meeting they both consider one of the greatest gifts either has ever received.
Julie loves theater, classic movies, foreign films, opera, and ballet. She loves to walk, hike, do Pilates and work out. Birdwatching is an especially enjoyable activity for her. And she likes to eat plus she really likes to cook, although she doesn’t think she’s especially good at it.
Bill loves driving, looking at classic cars, puttering through yard sales and antique shops, listening to old time radio/TV shows, and listening to all types of music, especially Jazz, music from the big band era, cabaret music, opera and some classical. Bill is involved with several Veterans groups and looks forward to continuing his work in this area when they move to Legacy. He loves being with people and making them laugh.
Julie and Bill are both passionate about and devoted to their three little black capped conures – a type of parrot. Shayne, Frankie and Bali.
Julie and Bill say Legacy checked all the “retirement” boxes on their wish list. Especially attractive are the ability to age in place with well thought out home design plans, a continuing care facility on site that will provide high quality and compassionate care, and the planned resort like feel and amenities that will result in a vibrant welcoming community and not a “facility.”
The Kapitos are looking forward to good, caring neighbors, trying new things, building new friendships and having a good time with lots of laughs.

Janet & Ann met in a yoga class over a decade ago and were married on the day the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Obergefell v. Hodges case.
While Barbara and Paul have enjoyed living in downtown Charleston, SC, they will not miss the growing threat of hurricanes, tidal flooding and the various impacts of climate change when they move to Legacy.
