Bill presently lives in Connestee Falls south of Brevard and has been a resident there for the past 17 years. He had been an engineer and manager for Westinghouse for twenty years before retiring initially in Pensacola, Florida…then in 2004 he and his wife Jeanie made the big move to North Carolina. Bill and Jeanie purchased a seven-acre view lot and designed and contracted a house and surrounding gardens. They spent the next decade finishing the details of the gardens and home. In the spring of 2019, Jeanie died suddenly of cancer and Bill currently spends much of his time maintaining and improving the home and landscaping they created together.
Bill loves gardening, woodworking, hiking, biking, & camping. He has worked at building and maintaining trails in the community for many years and been involved in a woodworking club. Five years ago, Bill put his engineering talents to work in converting a commercial van into a class B camper. The van is used for traveling throughout the US and he hopes to use it more once the pandemic is under control.
SURPRISED TO KNOW
Bill and Jeanie made the big decision to put their working careers on hold in 1988. They decided that having the ability to do the things they wanted was more important than greater affluence. They moved to Pensacola, FL, managed their rentals, and were owner builders of a home on a large, wooded lot. At the time Bill was 44 and Jeanie was 42. They never regretted that decision and it allowed them to have an interestingand, at times, challenging life.
Bill’s attraction to Legacy is multi-faceted. His years in Brevard has led him to embrace the beauty of Western North Carolina. He feels the location of Legacy provides convenient proximity to his friends in Brevard as well as to Asheville and Hendersonville with their respective great offerings. The trails throughout the site, the woodworking shop, the pool and the fitness facilities are all amenities he plans to enjoy to the fullest. And finally, the opportunity to meet others and develop friendships with his peers is another aspect he looks forward to when he moves to his future residence.
FUTURE AT LEGACY
A lover of tools and creations made of wood combined with his engineering/organizational skills, Bill looks forward to assisting in the setup of the woodworking shop for the enjoyment of all those fellow woodworkers!
