ABOUT

Bev and Bruce met in Norfolk, VA, where Bruce was stationed as a Naval Officer and Bev a high school business education teacher in nearby Hampton, VA.  Bruce served three plus years in the Navy and was released from active duty following time spent on an LST on the Mekong and Saigon rivers in Vietnam.  Upon his return he joined Armstrong World Industries, retiring as Controller after assignments that took him and Bev from the east to west coast and back again having moved six times.  At stops along this journey, Bev taught night classes at a business college, returned to teaching high school prior to starting their family, provided financial services for a dental practice and enjoyed volunteering at non-profits.  She views her time spent at home with their two children to be the most fulfilling of her endeavors.

In 2004, they moved into their newly built home at the Cliffs at Glassy near Landrum, SC, where they have enjoyed mountain living.

HOBBIES

Bruce and Bev both enjoy nature and the many outdoor opportunities that living in the Blue Ridge Mountains provides.  Bev enjoys playing bridge, yoga and working out at the fitness center as well as continuing with volunteerism.  Bruce likes to hike, play tennis and pickleball, read and most anything he can find to do outdoors.

SURPRISED TO KNOW

Hiking and traveling have been a large part of their retirement.  They have trekked/hiked together in Nepal, Slovakia, the Swiss Alps, Ireland, Canada, Alaska and several National Parks here in the U.S.  Bruce’s resume also includes Patagonia areas in Chile and Argentina.

As a side note, Bruce was on deployment to Central America when he received transfer orders to Vietnam.  This unexpected turn of events spurred them to plan a hasty wedding and honeymoon during Bruce’s three week leave before reporting to his new duty.  He spent 13 months in Vietnam and they celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary this year.  They even met on a blind date.

WHY LEGACY?

For Bruce and Bev, Legacy seems like the perfect fit to continue enjoying the lifestyle and environment that they have come to love.  With their children living on opposite coasts, they want to provide them with comfort about their well being while miles apart.
