Perry & Merri Alexander

The Alexanders have lived in the Asheville area since 2004 and presently reside in Fairview, just outside Asheville, where they have continued to enjoy the WNC life since 2014. Perry was raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan and lived in Arizona and Texas before settling in North Carolina. Merri is a true Southern gal who spent the better part of her youth in North Carolina, Virginia and Georgia. In 1967, her family moved to Saigon, Viet Nam at the time of the Viet Nam war. During that period, she attended school in the Philippines. Later, as an adult, she lived on St. Simons Island, Georgia where she was active in area art organizations and local non-profits until relocating to Black Mountain, North Carolina. Perry has nurtured a 40 year professional career as an independent marketing consultant with expertise in online, print and video work. While his client base was truly multifaceted, he assisted Sony and JC Penny during the pioneering days of digital photography in the mid-1990s.   Merri’s career has ranged from serving as a professional photographer, to becoming the first woman to manage a dinner theater in the United States and was VP of Adult Programing at Montreat Conference Center. She presently serves as the interim pastor of the Mills River Presbyterian Churchalready establishing her Mills River community roots! Both Perry and Merri plan on entering into full retirement at the end of 2021!

Perry loves playing piano and composing! He also enjoys everything relative to videography and photography. Merri, the former professional photographer, still enjoys that world including dark room work. She also loves writing and traveling. And…both of them have a true love connection to their two sibling Boston terriers…with the plethora of endearing entertainment!

The Alexanders met on line in 2009 where they discovered that, while they came from very different backgroundsthey were very kindred spirits. At the time, Merri was attending seminary…while Perry had had very little religious upbringing…but they were/are wonderfully aligned on their respective ethics and values. Ultimately, they elected to cherish their similarities and differences and were wise enough to know not to try to change the other!

Prior to their introduction to Legacy, the Alexanders were on a wait list at another CCRC. However, once they learned about Legacy’s equity model and the benefits of home ownership it supports, the opportunity to customize their future living space to their likes/needs, and the numerous benefits of becoming a Founding Guild member, the more they were convinced that this was the better decision for them. While confirming their reservation has “sped up the timeline”, they are very excited to embrace the many compelling living and health advantages and are looking forward to making this new transition in the next couple of years!

With their shared admiration and skills in photography, they both would love to lead a workshop series on the subject and related topics. Merri would also like to lead a faith- based group.
