Don & Cynthia Carson

ABOUT

Don and Cynthia both grew up in the Chicago area. They lived in Winston-Salem and Atlanta before moving permanently to Asheville in 2013, to a home they had purchased ten years earlier in the Grove Park area of North Asheville. Cynthia was a high school Theology teacher and department chair in the oldest high school in the Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta. Don has extensive experience in the financial sector as President of RFA Management Co, LLC; co-founder of both Ansley Capital Group and Cardez Hospitality Group. He was also responsible for investment banking and international banking businesses for Wachovia Corporation. Don also spent 13 seasons performing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra where he served as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and a director. Cynthia and Don have a daughter and two teen-age grandsons.

HOBBIES

Cynthia enjoys her two book groups and two board game groups. She likes to spend time reading, walking her dog Kizzy, and is an avid boot camp participant. She is an enthusiastic member of Asheville Newcomers Club where she has served as Membership Chair, VP, and she currently organizes a hiking group. She highly recommends that all Legacy women who are new to Asheville join this active organization for at least a year. https://www.ashevillenewcomersclub.com/

Don is a Board veteran and is currently Chair of Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, trustee of Beloit College, his alma mater, board member of Rollins, Inc (public company), two GA based private financial holding companies and a private equity backed medical technology and software company.

For fun Don plays keyboard with two bands – one in Asheville and one based in St. Louis. And you can occasionally find him out on the links working on his game.

SURPRISED TO KNOW

Cynthia was 45 when she attended and received her BA and MA degrees from Agnes Scott and the University of Notre Dame. She found herself running laps with the ROTC and the football team at an institution she would not have been admitted to at the “regular” college age. She’s participated in a course at NC Outward Bound School! Throughout her life she has been an active volunteer for many organizations. She also possesses a delightful sense of humor.

Don played piano professionally when he was in college. Later he performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus which provided remarkable lifetime opportunities including performing at the Chicago Ravinia festival, with the Berlin Philharmonic in Berlin, and three times at Carnegie Hall, including its 100th anniversary. To top it off he’s performed on numerous records, four of which earned Grammys!

WHY LEGACY

Like many Legacy members, Cynthia and Don like the equity model and the medical care that will be available on site. Preserving their estate as well as reducing their long-term medical care concerns for their daughter and grandsons are definite pluses.

FUTURE AT LEGACY

This will be their first time living in a brand-new home. They are looking forward to participating in new activities and making new friends, just as they’ve done every time they’ve moved.
